Practice the Final Ball Under a Small Scored Consequence
The last ball can feel different because the outcome is immediate. Practice that feeling with a small, reversible scoring consequence: lose only the unbanked streak, then begin again. The composure guide supplies the broader match routine; this worksheet gives one final-ball setup, exact scoring and a safe pressure progression.

Choose a consequence that cannot harm the player
Pressure training does not guarantee a result under match tension. Keep one familiar pre-shot routine as the process reference, use a small voluntary score consequence and preserve the same technical task. This worksheet organizes practice; it does not diagnose or treat choking or anxiety.
| Use | Avoid | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Reset an unbanked drill streak | Money or gambling | Keeps consequence inside the score |
| Repeat the normal setup | Extra physical exercise | Avoids punishment and fatigue |
| Write one neutral observation | Humiliation or public posting | Protects privacy and learning |
| Stop at the time limit | Endless make-before-leaving rules | Prevents unsafe or compulsive volume |
Build calm competitive composure before adding a scored consequence.
Build a pool routine under a clear test for a broader routine comparison.
Mark one final-ball shot
Place the object ball one diamond from a corner pocket and the cue ball about two diamonds away on a modest cut. Mark both positions where permitted. Name a cue-ball finish zone one diamond square away from scratch routes. Use the same shot routine and pocket speed for the entire set.
Before each attempt, say the pocket and finish zone. This is an individual drill, not a substitute for the call-shot requirements of the game or event being played.
Score the attempt and the streak separately
Complete twenty component-scored attempts. Only the ten Bank-stage attempts carry a streak. Each run of three consecutive legal pockets banks one streak point and resets the open streak to zero; a miss resets only the current open streak. Banked points and all component scores remain recorded. Maximum component score is sixty; the separate Bank-stage streak maximum is three. Settle and Declare do not add streak points.
| Point | Evidence |
|---|---|
| Routine | Pocket and zone named; one breath or reset completed |
| Object ball enters the called pocket legally | |
| Finish | Cue ball stops inside the named zone without a scratch |
Use a three-stage pressure ladder
Advance only if the consequence remains emotionally manageable. If anxiety rises sharply, routine quality collapses or the drill stops being voluntary, return to Settle or stop. A qualified mental-health or sport-psychology professional is appropriate for persistent distress.
| Stage | Attempts | Consequence |
|---|---|---|
| Settle | 5 | No streak; establish routine and safety |
| Bank | 10 | Three makes bank one streak point; a miss resets only the open streak |
| Declare | 5 | Call score, pocket and zone before approaching |
Worked score and next action
A hypothetical twenty-shot set produces 18 routine points, 14 pockets, 12 zone finishes and three banked streak points. The two routine losses both occur immediately after a reset, while pocketing remains stable. The next session keeps the same shot and practices the between-attempt reset before increasing difficulty.
If routine points remain high but pockets fall mainly in Declare, keep the spoken declaration and reduce the score display. If every stage misses the same side, remove the pressure layer and diagnose aim or delivery first. Game transfer is six ordinary racks in which the final-ball routine is scored once, regardless of outcome.
